My Soap Box on why you should Shop Local First

1. Significantly More Money Re-Circulates in Milford. When you purchase at locally owned businesses rather than nationally owned, more money is kept in the community because locally=owned businesses often purchase from other local businesses, service providers and farms. Purchasing local helps grow other businesses.

2. Non Profits Receive Greater Support. Local business owners donate more to local charities, support the school sports teams, extra curricular events than non-local owners.

3. Unique Businesses Create Character & Prosperity. The unique character of the Village of Milford brought many here and keeps many of us here.

4. Environmental Impact is Reduced. Local businesses make more local purchases requiring less transportation and are more likely to be part of the town center.

Produce Quality Barometer

Our suppliers are saying the following –

Excellent: Onions.

Very Good: Apples, Asparagus, Avocados, Celery, Green Leaf/Variety Lettuce, Iceberg Lettuce, Romaine, Honeydew, Lemons, Mixed Berries, Oranges, & Pears.

Average: Bell Peppers, Broccoli, Cantaloupe, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Grapes, Potatoes, Spring Mix, Squash & Tomatoes.

Pricing is beginning to reduce on asparagus as the supply begins to increase. Cantaloupe & Honeydew season in the states is almost over so imported product will begin to be seen. Cucumbers from Mexico are abundant. Florida’s green peppers have been consistently good quality thanks to cool and rainy weather. Michigan apples are at their lowest prices of the season with lots available.

Strawberries are not having the same shelf life as typically expected to unseasonable hot temperatures and high gusting winds. They are being packaged in 1# containers versus the typical 2# and are bruising and have soft texture. Butter is dropping in price approximately $.25/pound. Guess they think we have all done our holiday baking already. Cheese block pricing is dropping by a cent or two and egg pricing is dropping by a couple of cents.

Book Your Meeting

The Café is beginning to be used as a regular meeting space for various organizations. With a $25.00 fee, which is waived if food is served equaling $25,00. Belong to a book club, civic organization at home business and are looking for a place to have a meeting or run a seminar think about us. We are wi-fi connected and will work with your size group.

New Logo

As you can tell from our masthead, the Café has decided to play with the dragons. This is our new logo and appears on our sandwich menu. We have pancakes on the plate for our breakfast menu and a bowl of soup on the menu for soups, salads & children. We look forward to having dragon fun in the upcoming months.
